Thomas Ball is a seasoned technology entrepreneur. He has deep knowledge of software and Internet applications, local-based business models, Internet search, direct marketing, and financial services. At Austin Ventures, he focuses on software investing.

Prior to Austin Ventures, Thomas was CEO and co-Founder of Openfield Technologies, the largest technology provider and exchange for the secondary ticket industry. In this role, Thomas was instrumental in transforming an entire industry’s technology infrastructure from antiquated DOS systems to an online, real-time system. He also played a key role in securing partnership deals including Yahoo, MSN, eBay, and Knight Ridder.

Before Openfield, Thomas was the Chairman, CEO and Founder of eCoupons, which was acquired by Lifeminders in December of 2000. Under his leadership, eCoupons was a direct marketing pioneer in the cost per acquisition/redemption Internet model for offline merchants.

Thomas also has experience in private equity investing and strategy consulting from his time as a Principal at Discovery Capital, an Engagement Manager at Mitchell Madison Group, and an Associate at Austin Capital Group.

Thomas also owns an ICANN-accredited domain name registrar, Tahoe Domains.

Education/Personal
Tom received an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and a BS in finance, with Honors, from the University of Florida.

Fellowship
A member of Class 10, Thomas served his fellowship at Austin Ventures under mentor Chris Pacitti.
