Nick Kim

Nick graduated with an economics degree from UC Berkeley and earned his MBA from The Wharton School. He is a CFA Charterholder and a trained executive coach. Nick was born and raised in Santa Monica, and returned home in 2018 after nearly a decade in New York. He spends most of his free time with his wife and daughters, but will put everything on hold when the Kings are in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Nick is a partner on the early-stage investing team at Upfront Ventures. Based in the Los Angeles office, he invests primarily in vertical software, aerospace, frontier tech, and national security companies. Nick focuses on leading seed-stage investments and partnering with founders throughout their long company-building journeys. Prior to joining Upfront, Nick led seed investments in enterprise, consumer, and vertical software companies at Crosscut Ventures. He also served as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Human Ventures and as an investor with the Dorm Room Fund, First Round Capital’s student-run investment fund. Before beginning his venture capital career, Nick was an early employee at Warby Parker, where he managed the Home Try-On product. Outside of his responsibilities at Upfront, Nick serves on the board of 9 Dots, an education nonprofit in Los Angeles that aims to enable LA County elementary schools – especially Title I schools – to offer a computer science curriculum and to inspire the next generation of Angelenos to become engineers.
