Ravi Mohan

Ravi earned a BS in operations research and industrial engineering from Cornell University and an MBA, with Highest Distinction, from the University of Michigan Business School.

Ravi is active in entrepreneurial circles and helped found the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Indian Venture Capital Association (IVCA). In addition, he is an active Charter Member of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) and serves on the Corporate Advisory Board for the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.

Ravi was a Managing Director and co-founded Shasta, a premier early-stage venture firm with more $1.3B in management. Ravi led Shasta’s investments in Anaplan (NYSE:PLAN) and subsequently acquired by Vista Equity for $10.7B and Apptio (Nasdaq:APT)I and subsequently acquired by IBM for $14.6B. Other multi-hundred million dollar acquisitions include Appsheet (acquired by Google), Lithium (acquired by Vista Equity), Volometrix (acquired by Microsoft), and Zenprise (acquired by Citrix). He also led investments in several promising private companies including LeanData, Resilinc and vFunction. In summary, invested $293M in 25 companies and returned $997M with 11 winners. Of the $997M, $882M Realized including bageleing Fund 4 ($51M invested in 7 companies and $4M returns).

Ravi has focused his entire career on the software business. He worked with passionate entrepreneurs who possess unique product and market perspectives that result in high growth companies. His areas of expertise span data and analytics, SaaS applications and infrastructure management. He brings a unique perspective to the companies he works with specializing in product/market fit and team building. He now offers his perspective on a pro-bono basis and works with emerging companies such as CoverageCat and Precanto.

Prior to Shasta, Ravi was a general partner at Battery Ventures and a member of the executive committee. He led 8 investments in enterprise software and technology-enabled service companies. He delivered a 4X return on capital on the companies he invested fueled by 3 acquisitions and a public company.

Previously, Ravi built transaction-processing systems at Accenture, sold and implemented software applications for Hyperion Software Corp., and ran MIC, a business intelligence software company in India. Ravi also spent time at McKinsey & Co., working with consumer-packaged goods companies.

He obtained a B.S. degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University and earned his M.B.A. degree with highest distinction from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. He also was a member of the second class of Kauffman Fellows.

Ravi is a member of Class 2 and served his fellowship under mentor Ollie Curme at Battery Ventures in Wellesley, MA. Ravi serves as the Dean of Fellows for the Kauffman Fellows Program.
