Rick holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of California at Davis (summa cum laude), an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley, and an M.B.A. with Distinction from Harvard Business School.

Professional

Rick is a General Partner at USVP. Rick focuses on software (enterprise SaaS and cybersecurity) and technology-enabled consumer services (e-commerce and media). Rick led the following USVP investments that have had successful exits: Happy Returns (acquired by PayPal), HotelTonight (acquired by Airbnb), Pluto TV (acquired by Viacom), Edison Software (acquired by Yipit), Rimeto (acquired by Slack), ThreatMetrix (acquired by RELX), Trunk Club (acquired by Nordstrom), MeetMe (acquired by ProSiebenSat.1), Intermolecular (IPO, acquired by Merck), Instantis (acquired by Oracle), and Victrio (acquired by Verint). Rick was instrumental in USVP’s investment in Trusteer (acquired by IBM) and represented USVP as a board member at Yammer (acquired by Microsoft). Rick currently is a board member at Act-On Software, Darwinium, Mealogic, Primary, Stensul, and Tiny Fish.

 

Prior to joining USVP, Rick spent six years in software engineering leadership roles at Autodesk, as a consultant to Walt Disney Imagineering, and as a co-founder of software companies Design Variations and Common Point Technologies. Rick also held positions at Sun Microsystems, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and McKinsey & Company.
