Consuelo Valverde

SV LATAM Capital (SVLC)

Consuelo is the Founder/Managing Partner of SV LATAM Capital (SVLC) and a trailblazer for the Latin American startup community. Consuelo was the first Mexican woman to establish an early-stage VC firm in Mexico and Silicon Valley.

SVLC invests in early-stage entrepreneurs building creative solutions to global problems. She believes we cannot solve the world's biggest problems without solving them in Latin America. SVLC invests in three distinct pillars: Economic Opportunity, Health, and Climate. This approach, coupled with the rigorous investment decision process, has led SVLC to become a top 5% performing fund. Clip, a fintech startup in Mexico and Consuelo's first investment, became a unicorn.

As part of Mexico's scientific and tech community in the early 2000s, Consuelo saw brilliant ideas, talent, and science. Still, venture capital was non-existent. At the time, venture capital in the region was non-existent. This inspired her to start SVLC in San Francisco, to connect the growing LatAm market and talent pool to Silicon Valley, the strongest innovation ecosystem in the world.

An entrepreneur by nature, Consuelo founded her own PC manufacturing company after obtaining a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering at the age of twenty. All job postings in Mexico were for men twenty-five years and older. She was neither, forcing her to create her own job and catapulting her into entrepreneurship.

Before founding SVLC, Consuelo founded a software development company, a software developer training center, Morelos' Science Museum, a science magazine, and a TV and podcast science series. She also founded "CEMITT," Mexico's first innovation center, which continues to be a vital driver for entrepreneurship.

For two consecutive years, Consuelo has been named among the "100 Most Influential Latinas in the US." Before becoming a US citizen, she was granted an 0-1 Visa for "Aliens with Exceptional Abilities" by the US government and the "Distinguished Engineer" award from the IEEE in Mexico.

She is currently a Board Member of Oyster Financial, Cubbo, Encellin, Ares Materials, Prixz, Biomakers, Fiado, and DProtein.

Consuelo obtained her bachelor's degree from the University of Miami, where she was the President of the Council of International Students and Organizations and was distinguished with the 'Special Commendation Award' and 'Who's Who Among American Universities and Colleges.' She has a Master of Science in Computer Science from Tecnológico de Monterrey with honors. She also holds a Master of Science in Science Entrepreneurship with Merit from Cass Business School in London. She also completed a year of graduate studies in Genomics. Consuelo is a Kauffman Fellow Class 19.
