Sonia is a Founding Partner of VentureSouq (VSQ), an early-stage investment and education platform focused on high-growth technology companies globally. Launched in 2013 and based in Dubai, VSQ provides investment services to primarily MENA-based individual and institutional investors. To date, the company has made 90 investments into fast-growth companies across MENA, North America, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, Europe, and Asia.
VSQ also develops rich educational content around venture investing and delivers this content through a number of programs across the MENA region. Its goal is to create a new class of informed investors that will serve as a viable funding source for emerging companies, both regionally and internationally.
Previously, Sonia led advertising sales for Turner Broadcasting's portfolio of children's platforms across MENA. Prior to Turner, she worked with Viacom's Emerging Markets' Strategy Group and Microsoft's Strategy and M&A team in London.
Education, Personal, and Fellowship
Sonia was born in Paris and grew up in Indonesia, Japan, the US, and France. She holds a BA from Yale University and an MSc from the London School of Economics.
She is a Charter Member and Board Member for The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE)'s Dubai chapter, serves as the UAE Director for the Yale Alumni Schools Committee, and is a Board Member and Mentor for e7 Daughters of the Emirates. Sonia has a particular interest in supporting companies and endeavors that choose to harness the power of technology to address economic, social, and environmental challenges.
Sonia is a member of Class 24 serving her fellowship at Venture Souq under the mentorship of Pule Taukobong (Class 19), Managing Partner at CRE Venture Capital, and Vani Kola, Managing Director of Kalaari Capital.
