Ebony Brown

Rethink Education

Ebony Brown is a partner at Rethink Education, an edtech venture fund that focuses on early-stage investments. Rethink Education invests in learning tools that allow people of all ages access to reach their full potential. This spans products for schools, career pathways, workforce development and all the training that is needed to successfully navigate these transitions. Since joining the firm, she pioneered Rethink Equity, a $5m carveout to invest in underrepresented people of color. During the pandemic, she helped connect portfolio CEOs to customers at scale. She also serves on the boards of portfolio companies Allhere and Anthill. Ebony was selected to Venture Capital Journal's Rising Stars 2022 list.

Prior to joining Rethink Education, she was Director of US Ventures at Village Capital, advising entrepreneurs, leading sourcing and diligence and providing training for the firm's portfolio. Previously, Ebony spent time in her hometown of Detroit, managing charter schools at New Urban Learning and began her career as an Account Strategist at Google.

Education, Personal, and Fellowship

Ebony holds an MBA from the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business and a B.B.A in Finance from Howard University. She co-leads the Talent & Diversity group for Impact Capital Managers and helped to design and launch the Mosaic Fellowship to build a pipeline of diverse, skilled talent in the alternative investment industry.

She made a pandemic move from Brooklyn to Atlanta with her husband Joe, where they recently bought their first house. She enjoys swimming, baking, and exploring the rich food and culture of new places.
