National Grid Partners
Kristian Bodek is an Investment Director at National Grid Partners, the corporate venture capital arm of the international electric & gas utility. He is responsible for making and managing fund investments for financial and strategic return, including leading and supporting co-investments and facilitating business unit engagements. His portfolio consists of investments with Energy Impact Partners, IQ Capital, Jerusalem Venture Partners and The Hive. He is also responsible for a new plank of NGP’s investment strategy, startups developing asset-based solutions that address core utility operational and decarbonization use cases.
Previously, Kristian was a senior member of the power practice at IHS Markit, a research and advisory firm. He led techno-economic, market fundamentals and policy analyses on a range of topics spanning generating technology cost and performance to electricity demand forecasting. While at IHS Markit he also developed and chaired the CERAWeek Energy Innovation Pioneers program, a platform for introducing established companies to innovative startups working across the energy value chain. Earlier in his career, he worked for a sustainable design firm, where he performed lifecycle assessments of materials and processes, and obtained US Green Building Council LEED Certification.
Education, Personal, and Fellowship
Kristian earned dual master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Technology & Policy from MIT. In graduate school, he researched alternative vehicle technologies for the MIT Energy Institute and was an early leader of the student-run Energy Club. Kristian also holds a BS in Physics from Bates College, where he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
He currently lives north of Boston with his wife and two children, and enjoys outdoor pursuits like hiking, biking and cross-country skiing.
As a member of Class 26, Kristian is serving his fellowship at National Grid Partners under the mentorship of Pradeep Tagare (Kauffman Fellows Class 10).
