John Park

Aevolution Investment Corp.

John Park founded Aevolution Investment Corp to invest in disruptive growth companies throughout Asia but with initial primary focus on Korea. John was most recently the founder and CEO of Kakao Investment, the investment subsidiary of Kakao Group, with NAV of over 1.1 trillion won (USD 1 billion) as of December 31, 2020. Mr. Park left Kakao Investment in March 2021 to form and operate investment firm Aevolution Investment Corp where he is a major shareholder and CEO.

Prior to founding Kakao Investment, John was the Chief Strategy Officer of Kakao Group, and led several large-scale transformation for the company during his tenure. As the CSO of Kakao Group, John executed on the acquisition and merger of Daum Corp, led several important acquisitions for Kakao, and set up the venture investing business for the Group, KVG, renamed as Kakao Investment. One of Kakao Investment's first investments was the acquisition of 67% of Nzin which renamed into Kakao Games and went IPO at USD 6 billion market capitalization. He also helped set up and undertake CEO role for the holding company of Ground X, a blockchain subsidiary of Kakao Group. As the head of global initiatives, he acquired 50% stakes in Kakao Japan owned by Yahoo Japan and helped transform the entity to become a manga content business provider "Picoma" from a messaging service provider, recently recognized at USD 8 billion valuation raising USD 600 million.

Prior to joining Kakao in 2014, he founded Asia Evolution in 2000, an advisory and incubation firm based in various locations in Asia to serve over 200 clients to value-add by setting goals and supporting strategic initiatives, raising capital and merging with and acquiring businesses on their behalf.

From 1994 to 1999 John worked as an Associate and Executive Director at Goldman Sachs Investment Banking Division in New York and Seoul. During his tenure at Goldman, he set up the Korean office for Goldman Sachs and led many significant corporate restructuring efforts for Korean companies while also founding and funding Vietnam's largest mobile telecom company.

Education, Personal, and Fellowship

John obtained BA Honors in Economics, magna cum laude, from Brown University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

John is a member of Kauffman Fellows Class 26, and is serving his fellowship at Aevolution Investment Corp under mentor Perry Ha.
