Richard Yen is Managing Partner at Medici Capital Partners, a late-stage Internet investment firm based in SF specializing in opportunistic growth financings, secondaries, and mini-PE deals in profitable B2C companies. Richard's key sectors of focus include consumer subscription services, gaming, sports tech, fitness/wellness, marketplaces, digital kids, e-commerce, ed-tech, OTT, audio/podcasting, and digital media.
Prior to founding Medici Capital Partners, Richard was Managing Director at Saban Capital Group, an LA-based family office firm where he led Internet/tech investments for 10 years on behalf of media billionaire Haim Saban. Richard led Saban's B2C multi-stage investment practice in SF across growth equity, pre-IPO, and VC investments. Richard led the firm's investments in Bustle, Vessel, ironSource and PlayBuzz and worked actively with Saban's portfolio companies including Saban Brands (owner of Power Rangers and Paul Frank) and Univision, advising on Internet acquisitions and strategies. Richard also served as Managing Director for Saban's $250M SPAC (Nasdaq:SCACU) targeting and evaluating US Internet opportunities.
Prior to joining Saban Capital Group, Richard was a Principal at Blueprint Ventures where he established the firm's digital media and Internet investing practice. Prior to Blueprint, Richard worked for Rustic Canyon Partners, a technology venture capital firm where he focused on early-stage software and wireless investments. His prior operating roles include serving as Vice President for Merrill Lynch's online brokerage unit and Director of Engineering for D. E. Shaw & Co.'s Internet incubator group.
Education, Personal, and Fellowship
Richard received an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management as a Dean's Scholar, and received a BS in electrical engineering and computer science from UC Berkeley.
Richard is a member of Class 9 and served his fellowship under mentor Bart Schachter at Blueprint Ventures in San Francisco, CA.
